Maria Buza & Taraf Ciuleandra

The band is from Wallachia (southern part of Romania) and has a more fancy but authentic, traditional style.

They released an album in 2001 at ARC Music Int. Ltd. based in U.K.

The group is more for stage shows, with a 4-5 instruments and a female singer.

The singer is a famous Romanian gipsy actress, Maria Buza. Her gifted voice associated with theatre acting studies make a good mixture, Maria not only sings gipsy songs but also act accordingly, the result is a refined show which keeps the audience inflamed. Her idol is Maria Tanase (The Queen of Romanian Folklore) a kind of Amalia Rodrigues among the Romanians.

Band members:

Mircea George Patrascu – leading violin, band leader;

“Pisicaru” Marian – double bass;

George Ioan Miu – dulcimer;

“Fundament” Viorel – accordion;

Adrian Chiriac – clarinet.

The group has different sets of traditional costumes.

The instruments are: violin, accordion, double bass, clarinet and dulcimer

The group did not tour before. Actually some of its members were included in other gipsy bands on someconcerts but not on a regular basis.

The group has many TV appearances in Romania, the video recording included in the demo CD was from one of these TV shows. Also plays regularly at weddings and in some romanian traditional pubs.

The photos included here were made in the recording studio. The photographer Tudor Petrescu (an artist himself) tried to catch the movement of musicians when playing.
